Since the refurbished building was re-opened as a tourist attraction in 1998, many a visitor has reported the appearance of ghostly figures, strange voices and an eerie mist that suddenly appears as they wander through the historic building.
In 2008 paranormal scientists from the US Sci Fi channel’s Ghost Hunters International flew across the Atlantic to investigate the strange reports. Astonishing evidence of paranormal activity was recorded including deep voices, strange movements and unexplained flashes of light, proving the building was most haunted. The results were broadcast on television across the world, and Wicklow Gaol has become renowned as Ireland’s most haunted building.
